Time for another Thursday Thoughts post! In bold, you’ll see some of the latest Google searches that brought readers to my blog – then my responses for each.

“What exactly is a soulmate?”

I wrote A Message for My Soulmate nearly three years ago. The post gives my definition of a soulmate as well as a personal message for my own. Hopefully one of these days he will read it.

My dog Molly was diagnosed with an atypical form of Cushing’s Disease back in April. Her body produces an excess amount of estradiol, causing an assortment of serious medical problems. I am very fortunate to live in Knoxville, as The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine is the leading authority on this particular form of Cushing’s Disease. At this time, there is no “medication” to combat the disease. UTCVM recommends melatonin supplements and flaxseed oil with lignans to control the estradiol levels. As an alternative to oral supplements, melatonin is available as an implant. The implant is quickly and painlessly inserted under the skin, costs approximately $80, and lasts 4-6 months. Molly has the melatonin implant and takes Brevail for the flaxseed oil.

“Jarred Ball”

Regular readers of my blog know full well that I have a deep admiration for minor league baseball player Jarred Ball. Jarred played for the Tennessee Smokies for a couple of seasons before being transferred to the Mobile BayBears in 2007. He then moved from AA to AAA and is now a free agent. I hope to be watching him on ESPN next season! Jarred’s father, whom I am pleased to call a friend, is one of the most kind, caring men I’ve ever met.

Of Beauty, Spiders, and Men

While browsing through my Google search terms today, I realized that my blog is often accessed for advice on beauty, spiders, and men. I consider myself to be quite knowledgeable on beauty topics, but when it comes to spiders and men, I’m not so sure anyone should turn to me for advice.

I have decided, however, to share my views on a few of the recent searches that led readers to The Kat House.

“Has anyone did eyelash perm and how long?”

I’ve had my eyelashes permed several times, and I’ve been very pleased. When I mentioned an upcoming appointment on my blog a while back, there were lots of questions, so I decided to post a photo of my beautifully curled lashes. The entire procedure lasts about 45 minutes and the curl lasts about six weeks. If you’re in the Knoxville area, I recommend Belleza Salon and Spa.

Oh, and I can give great advice on grammar as well. Next time, ask for that.

“How to get rid of wolf spiders”

Get naked.

“What to say when dumping a man”

There’s really no need to say anything. He’ll dump you soon enough.

“Is he blowing me off?”

If you have to ask this question, then yes. He’s blowing you off. Move on.

“Does he love me? He gave me a toothbrush.”

I have only been given a toothbrush one time. The guy simultaneously asked me to move to another state for him, and in a temporary state of insanity, I agreed. I spent an unbelievable amount of time and effort preparing for the move, and before it was complete, he got cold feet and dumped me. So no, a toothbrush does not signify love. Consider it foreshadowing for the big dump that is likely to occur a short while later. Either that, or you have bad breath.

“Show me sexy men.”

Certainly. Here are a few sexy men who have been featured on my blog.

Twitter has added a new People Search feature that makes cyber-stalking easier. Chip has written an excellent review of this feature, stalking yours truly in the process.
It seems that everyone has been joining Facebook lately. If you’d like to know what all the fuss is about, check out Facebook Facts by Jack Lail.
Memphis Steve is hosting a cool game called the I Wish Game. Each participant grants the wish of the previous participant and then makes a wish of his own. The fun part is that when your wish is granted, it’s not quite the way you’d like it. My wish was for a “romantic, loving boyfriend who worships the ground I walk on”. Turns out he’s gay but great for helping me shop for shoes! When you check out this link, start from the top and read all the comments. You’ll have lots of laughs!

Highlight of the Evening

The highlight of my evening was getting to see my favorite baseball player, Jarred Ball. You may recall that Jarred used to play for the Tennessee Smokies, but this season he is with the Mobile BayBears. Tonight the Smokies went up against the BayBears, and like a #1 fan should be, I was there to take lots and lots of photos of Jarred!

U.S. Reclaims Nathan’s Mustard Belt

Loving hot dogs as I do, there’s no way I could miss the 92nd Annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. It was held today in Coney Island, and thanks to ESPN, I was able to view it from the comfort of my very own living room.

You may have heard that Japan’s Takeru Kobayashi, who has won the contest for the past six years, recently suffered a sprained jaw. It was unsure if he would be able to compete this year, and if so, how well he would fare. I am happy to say that Kobayashi did compete, and despite his injury, managed to beat the previous world record.

Before today’s competition, the world record was 53.75 hot dogs in 12 minutes, set last year by Kobayashi.

Today’s competition had me on the edge of my seat. Though there were a number of competitors, the contest came down to Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut, a college student from California. Chestnut stayed 3-4 hot dogs ahead of Kobayashi through most of the competition, but the last 3 minutes were really intense. At times, there was only a fraction of a hot dog separating them.

In the end, Chestnut won the competition by eating 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes, setting a new world record. Kobayashi came in second place, eating 63 hot dogs.

Chestnut won $10,000, two cases of Nathan’s famous dogs, and most importantly, reclaimed Nathan’s Mustard Belt for the United States.

Weekend Wrap-Up

It has been quite an eventful weekend.

Friday was my 35th birthday. I spent the evening at Oak Ridge Playhouse for their first play of the season – The Pajama Game. The musical comedy revolved around a love affair between the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory’s new superintendent and the leader of the grievance committee. When the workers decided to strike for a pay raise, the relationship was put to a real test. The music was fantastic, as was the acting. It was my first time attending a play at this venue, but I had a marvelous time!

On Saturday evening, I attended another play – Seussical, which is based on the works of Dr. Seuss. The musical incorporated bits and pieces of 14 different Seuss stories. It was put on the by the Erin Youth Players at Erin Presbyterian Church. I think I enjoyed this play even more than The Pajama Game. The music was amazing, and the kids, ranging from middle school to college age, were fantastic actors! This performance took me back in time, reminding me of how much fun it was to just be a kid. I found myself looking around during the play, and I noticed something really beautiful – every face had a smile on it. And those smiles stayed there from beginning to end! Children, parents, grandparents. Though the audience consisted of several generations, we were all kids that night. This particular play also had two local blogger connections, making it that much more special to me. My good friend Barry from Inn of the Last Home was the Music Director, and the actress portraying the Sour Kangaroo was the daughter of Lane of Masses of Everything.

I spent Sunday evening at the ball field. My Smokies played the Mississippi Braves. I am happy to say that the Smokies won 2-1 in the 10th inning.

Obsessions

Sterling from Chip’s Quips recently participated in a meme about obsessions. I wasn’t tagged this time, but you guys know how much I enjoy memes. I have chosen to participate anyway! The purpose of this meme is to write about five things you obsess about. Here’s my list.

Blogging – I’m sure that many of you are addicted to blogging as well. I can honestly say that there’s nothing I enjoy doing more than posting to my blog. I find it a nice way to relax, unwind, and get a few things off my chest. I’ve been blogging for three years, and so many positive things have come of it. Not only do I have an outlet for expressing my feelings and viewpoints, but I have made some incredible friends here. Sometimes my hectic day-to-day life prevents me from posting, but I do try to post something each day.
American Idol – Anyone who has ever tried to call me during an episode of American Idol knows just how obsessed I am with the show. You might as well forget calling me on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings while the show is airing.
Minor League Baseball – I love baseball – in particularly, Minor League baseball. And to be more specific, Tennessee Smokies baseball. On many Saturday evenings during baseball season, you can find me sitting right behind the Smokies dugout, chowing down on chili dogs, and gulping Mountain Dew by the gallons. Oh, and I take photos to post on my blog!
Movies – My DVD collection keeps growing! I haven’t counted my movies in quite some time, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I have about 300 of them by now. I just went to Blockbuster and loaded up on previewed movies just a few days ago as a matter of fact. I got Snakes on a Plane, Talladega Nights, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and Doogal for $5 each. I got Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny and The Holiday for $10 each. I couldn’t find a previewed copy of The Fantastic 4, so I bought a new copy.
Rescue Me – Rescue Me is one of the hottest shows on television. Season 4 started last week, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve watched faithfully since the series premiere. Denis Leary is spectacular! Hot firefighters, humor, and drama all rolled up into one show – how could I not be addicted?

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Kevin and I went to our first baseball game of the season last night. Our Tennessee Smokies took on the Jacksonville Suns. As usual, I was there with camera in hand to catch a few special moments for my blog.

As you know, I’ve been on a very strict diet, so I just couldn’t resist getting one of these scrumptious chili dogs!

Good Lord in Heaven, it was so yummy! And seeing as though I had already blown the diet that evening, I went all out and got a Mountain Dew as well!

Kevin stayed true to tradition and got those damn barbecue nachos.

Here are a few other highlights from the evening.

We were fortunate enough to have an honorary commentator sitting right next to us. He gave the play by play loud enough for the entire stadium to hear, and he even coached the team on. I looked down to his feet, and it suddenly all made sense.

I observed a moment of silence when Rojas stepped up to bat.

Jarred Ball, my favorite baseball player, wore the number 20 when he played for the Smokies. He now plays for the Mobile BayBears. Life just hasn’t been the same since he left the team. Expect to see him on my blog in the coming weeks however, since Kevin and I will be seeing a BayBears game at some point this season.

It was a fantastic evening at Smokies Park. The only thing that would have made it better is having my photo taken with Diamond and Slugger.

Go Vols!

I went to see the Vols play Marshall today. The weather was absolutely terrible. It stormed all day, and just getting downtown was a nightmare in itself. There were flooded roads all over town! On top of that, I parked on the opposite side of the river. Getting to the stadium was fine, but the long walk back was one I wouldn’t want to repeat!

The game itself was good, but it would have been better if we hadn’t had to sit in the pouring rain. Thank goodness for those orange ponchos!

The Vols won 33-7. Here are a few photos I managed to capture between the downpours of rain.
