Last night a friend and I had a lengthy discussion about crushes. In particularly, we discussed just when a crush is more than a crush. After much thought, I have decided to publish my conclusions.

Let us first define the word “crush”. In my opinion, a crush is an admiration from afar. Though crushes vary from person to person, there are certain “crush factors” that are usually present.

Crush Factors
1. The crush is admired from a distance.
2. The crush and the crusher are not very acquainted with one another.
3. The crush is usually unaware that he or she is being crushed on.
4. The feelings are one-sided.

At any given time, I have at least a couple of crushes going on. They are usually innocent enough – never really given much serious consideration. But occasionally there is a crush that makes me question whether it is really a crush at all. Thus the question, “When is a crush more than a crush?”

Let us examine my own “serious” crush using the aforementioned crush factors.

Rarely a day goes by that the crush and I don’t converse. We talk for hours on end and share the intimate details of our lives. He’s one of the best friends I’ve ever had, and I’m pretty sure he considers me the same.

1. <strike>The crush is admired from a distance</strike>.
2. <strike>The crush and the crusher are not very acquainted with one another</strike>.

The crush and I have discussed our crushes with each other. He is my crush. I am his.

3. <strike>The crush is usually unaware that he or she is being crushed on</strike>.
4. <strike>The feelings are one-sided</strike>.

As I said, crushes vary from person to person, but some or all of the crush factors must be present to qualify as a real crush. In this particular case, none of the crush factors are present.

So when is a crush more than a crush?

When your heart begins to race at the sight of an email from him. When each day brings a new opportunity to learn more about his hopes and dreams. And when you are inspired to be the best person you can possibly be – because that’s what he is.

Blogger crushes – we all have them! Your crushes may be with bloggers you’d never romantically pursue due to the circumstances that are presently in place, but let’s face it. There are online acquaintances that you deeply admire. You check their blogs each day in hopes of finding new insight into who they are and how they think. You’re elated to catch a glimpse of a new photo. You’re inspired by their words and compelled to leave comments. You think of them even when you’re not online.

My buddy Mike and I had a long talk about blogger crushes recently. He wanted to do a post about them but was a little too shy to confess to his own crushes. I wrote a post about blogger crushes back in 2005, and it got a very good response. So here I go again!

Be bold. Be honest. Leave a comment revealing the names of your blogger crushes and just why you’re so attracted to them. Remember – we realize these are people that, for whatever reason, you might not ever seriously pursue. It’s all in good fun, though, and you just may make someone’s day!

Let the fun begin!

I’ve become addicted to Felicity. I’m nearing the end of Season 1, and I have Seasons 2–4 in my Netflix queue. I’ll probably end up buying all 4 seasons, because this show absolutely rocks! There are many lessons to be learned from it.

I watched an episode this weekend in which a student explained his theory – that each person is better than everybody else at three things. It made me think. If his theory were true, what would my three things be? What talents do I have? In what ways do I surpass the average Joe?

I made a few mental notes of my talents and then decided to ask the boyfriend for his thoughts. Brico thinks my three best talents are Communication, Patience, and Punctuation. Now there’s something to be proud of! I may not be able to do much, but I can certainly edit your English paper!

And Brico, just what are you trying to say about my sexual talents – or perhaps more fitting, lack thereof!?

After much consideration, here is the list of what I consider to be my best talents.

Grammar/spelling/punctuation

Penmanship

Problem solving

I’m actually quite flattered at Brico’s list, even though he chose not to disclose my “secret” talents. I’ve never really thought of myself as being skilled in the art of communication, but perhaps I am. I am quite able (and always willing) to express myself, though I’m not sure that is always looked upon as a positive thing. This “talent” did, however, inspire my chattiekat email addresses and Messenger names, a personalized license plate, and even a short story! Yep, if nothing else, I’m definitely chatty! As for patience, what can I say? I can be the most patient person in the world with those I love, but watch out if you’re not on that very short list!

Now, what are your three special talents? And for those of you who know me well, what would you say my three best talents are?

I found this over at Addict’s place. You’re supposed to list eight secrets about yourself. Here goes…

I didn’t get my period until I was 15 years old.

I lost my virginity at age 21.

I was in a physically abusive marriage for five years. I’ve been divorced for seven years now.

I am ashamed of my sexual history – in particularly, the number of guys I’ve been with. If I could go back in time, I’d make some serious changes.

I’ve never been fond of babies. A guy at work is constantly emailing me pictures of his baby. I delete the emails without even looking at the photos.

When I was taking Chemistry in high school, before the exams I would write out all the formulas I thought I’d need to know. I’d have a blank sheet of paper underneath the paper I was writing on. I’d bare down as hard as I could so that the indentions would be left on the second sheet of paper. I’d then use that “blank” sheet of paper as my “scrap” piece of paper while taking the exam. That’s the only time I ever cheated in high school or college. I really struggled with chemistry, and even having the formulas handy during the exams didn’t help much. I made a C, and I felt like a failure. I made straight As in the rest of my honors curriculum.

I tried an illegal drug only once in my life.

One of the best friends I’ve ever had is serving life in prison without parole for a murder that he committed in 1998. Though I don’t agree with what he did, he is still my friend. I keep in touch by mail as often as possible.

Whew. Can’t believe I just said all that stuff! For those of you who have balls of steel, feel free to post your own secrets! And Addict, thanks for giving me the guts to go through with this!

I’m sure that most of you are familiar with PostSecret. It all began when Frank Warren started handing out blank postcards to complete strangers, asking them to write down a secret they had never told anyone and to mail it to him anonymously. The response was overwhelming. A book of secrets has since been published, and Warren continues to receive dozens of postcards each day.

If you haven’t checked out Warren’s blog, you should. He updates it weekly with new secrets. I just created a postcard containing a secret I’ve never shared with anyone. I now challenge you to do the same. You can find instructions for your postcards on the PostSecret blog. Who knows? Maybe your secret will make it to the website – or better yet, the next book!

Anyone gonna join me?

I’ve been blogging on MySpace for nearly a year now. I enjoy MySpace, but as Osbassa mentioned in his blog, it’s an entirely different experience than Blogger. Seeing as though I’ve only been on Blogger for a couple of days, I can’t yet speak of many of its features; however, I really like what I’ve seen so far! I’ve met a few really nice (and coincidently, half-nekkid) people on here!

The problem with MySpace is that all my friends are on there. And whenever I post a blog, they all read it. That should be what I want, shouldn’t it? Well…yeah. But at the same time, there are certain things that I really don’t want those closest to me to read. Know what I mean? So, I am going to start blogging the boring details of my life here – for all you wonderful, half-nekkid people to read. And I’m not telling any of my K-town friends about this blog. Keep my secret, will ya?

I had an interesting conversation with my friend Wanda a few years ago. It went something like this.

Tish: You know, I am not wearing underwear today. I don’t like feeling constricted by it.
Wanda: I know exactly what you mean. I never wear underwear.
Tish: Really? I’d say that I am underwear-free about 25 percent of the time.
Wanda: 100 percent of the time feels much better.
Tish: You are my idol.

That day signified a turning point for me – an epiphany, if you will. I am now underwear-free about 50 percent of the time.

All underwear in my personal collection falls into one of the following categories.

1. Lacey panties – These are my favorites. I especially like the boy short type. And matching bras are a necessity!

2. Thongs – Great for avoiding panty lines! Unfortunately, thongs can create comfort issues from time to time. Once again, matching bras are a necessity.

3. Granny panties – These are reserved for those times of the month when you just can’t risk ruining the good stuff. Matching bras are typically not an option.

When I finally reach my goal of being completely underwear-free, all three categories will be promptly thrown in the trash. And at that moment, I will be free – free from the constraints of tight-fitting underwear, free from the sagging of loose-fitting underwear, free from the wedgies associated with thongs. I will be free from the evil that is called UNDERWEAR!

I have a unique way of documenting the days that I have gotten “lucky”. I call it the Smiley System. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been putting smiley face stickers on my calendar each day that I’ve had sex. 2004 was a very depressing year – only 10 smileys! I didn’t even average one per month! How sad. Hopefully, 2005 will be much better.

For those of you who are curious, there are very specific guidelines to the Smiley System.

Rules of the Smiley System

1. You can never have more than one smiley on a given day. Getting sex on that day = one smiley. Doesn’t matter how many times you do it.

2. Sex that starts before midnight and ends after midnight does not give you two smileys! The smiley is placed on the day that the sex started.

3. Only true intercourse warrants a smiley. Anything else doesn’t count.

4. No matter how bad the sex, you cannot place a frowny face on the calendar. Sex = smiley.

5. Optimal number of smileys = 365 per year. (Unfortunately, I have yet to achieve this goal.)

So there you go – Tish’s Smiley System. Now you’ll know what I’ve been up to when you see my calendar, or more than likely, what I haven’t been up to.
