Over the past couple of months, I’ve become addicted to Coke Zero. I go through at least one 12 pack per week. If you haven’t tried this stuff, man oh man! No calories, no carbs, yet it tastes like real Coke! I’ve never been a big fan of Diet Coke because of the after taste, so Coke Zero is perfect. And I can drink as much as I want! Every now and then I can find them on sale – three 12 packs for $10. That’s when I stock up. I’ve also recently started entering the My Coke Rewards codes online, which I’ve never done in the past. I’m up to 69 points so far! Just a few more and I can get a free 12 pack! Yippee!

I just read a really cool post over at Everybody Loves Coupons. Andrew blogged about a website where you can purchase restaurant gift certificates for just a fraction of their face value. You can get a $25 certificate for only $10 – and it gets even better. He posted a coupon code that gives you 50% off of that price, so you’re getting a $25 certificate for only $5. You can search by zip code to get a list of participating restaurants.

For those of you in Knoxville, here are a few of the participating restaurants: A Taste of Havana, Green Hills Grille, MacLeod’s Restaurant and Pub, Sawyer’s of Knoxville, and Shono’s In City. There are a number of others, so be sure to check it out.

If you plan on using the 50% off coupon code, you’ll have to hurry. It’s good through 11:59 PM CT on March 5th.

Les Jones posted some terrific photos from his recent visit to the Maple Lane Farms Corn Maze in Greenback, TN. The maze will be haunted from October 18th – October 31st. I think I’ll check it out sometime before Halloween.

As it turns out, I’m not the only person who loves hot dogs enough to post photos of them. Bush Mackel recently attended Taste of Bethesda 2007, and the hot dogs were so delicious that he just couldn’t resist posting a photo of him chowing down on one.

Do you think like a psychopath? Bucky posted a simple quiz you can take to find out. This is one quiz that I hope you all fail.

Also from Bucky is this list of the 37 Men Commandments. Men, this will help you determine the appropriate ways to behave in a number of situations. Women, it will help you to understand your men. It helps me understand why I enjoy being single.

My, how beer commercials have changed! Check out Aaron’s post containing an early Labatt’s beer commercial.

Weekly “link love” posts seem to be pretty popular around the blogosphere. Several of my friends, including Mike from Ordinary Folk, do weekly posts linking you to some of the cool things they have found over the previous week. Since I read a lot of blogs and find lots of cool things on them, I am jumping on the bandwagon! Each Sunday, I’ll give a sampling of some of the interesting things I’ve discovered.

Without further ado, here are the first Sunday Samplings.

Kaliblue blogged about Israel “Bruddah IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole, a Hawaiian musician who passed away 10 years ago at age 38. He became famous outside Hawaii when his album featuring a Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World medley was released in 1993. The song was featured in several films, television shows, and commercials. I must admit that I had never heard of Kamakawiwo’ole, but I watched the video of his famous medley on Kaliblue’s post, and I was touched. This man had an absolutely beautiful voice, and as Kaliblue put it, A Beautiful Spirit.

Ever wondered where the expression “curiosity killed the cat” came from? Les Jones has the answer. This proverb has a theatre connection dating back to 1598!

We’re all sick of hearing about the iPhone, but Kiltak has posted something guaranteed to make you laugh. Check out iPhone: The Musical.

Pownce is a new project by the founder of Digg. It is still in beta form, so it’s by invitation only. Jonathan Phillips wrote a great review called Pownce: Kinda Like Twitter But On Steroids. Take a look to see what all the hype is about. And if you want to give Pownce a try, I have six invites. If you want one, leave a comment below.

My sister just made some homemade potato chips that are fried in Red Palm Oil. Her family was crazy about them, and if the photo is any indication, I would be too.

Loving hot dogs as I do, there’s no way I could miss the 92nd Annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. It was held today in Coney Island, and thanks to ESPN, I was able to view it from the comfort of my very own living room.

You may have heard that Japan’s Takeru Kobayashi, who has won the contest for the past six years, recently suffered a sprained jaw. It was unsure if he would be able to compete this year, and if so, how well he would fare. I am happy to say that Kobayashi did compete, and despite his injury, managed to beat the previous world record.

Before today’s competition, the world record was 53.75 hot dogs in 12 minutes, set last year by Kobayashi.

Today’s competition had me on the edge of my seat. Though there were a number of competitors, the contest came down to Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut, a college student from California. Chestnut stayed 3-4 hot dogs ahead of Kobayashi through most of the competition, but the last 3 minutes were really intense. At times, there was only a fraction of a hot dog separating them.

In the end, Chestnut won the competition by eating 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes, setting a new world record. Kobayashi came in second place, eating 63 hot dogs.

Chestnut won $10,000, two cases of Nathan’s famous dogs, and most importantly, reclaimed Nathan’s Mustard Belt for the United States.

2. List your top five places to eat at your location.

Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria – Barley’s is my favorite hangout. Their pizza is to die for, and they have Hardcore Cider on draft, which is always a plus. There is live entertainment each night, and the atmosphere is very laid-back. It’s the type of place where you can sit down, have a beer, and unwind from a long day at the office.

A&W – Anyone who reads my blog on a regular basis knows that I consider A&W to be a gift from God. Although the food is good, it is the root beer that keeps me coming back. You just can’t beat a big frosty mug of A&W draft root beer! It has been about two years since I’ve been to A&W. And since I’ve recently lost more than 10 pounds and plan on losing more, it will probably be a long time until I visit again. When I reach my goal weight, however, I’ll be starting Project Root Beer. It’s mission: to drink a root beer at every A&W in the nation. I’ll have my photo taken while drinking each root beer, and I’ll document my progress on a photo blog, complete with pins on a US map!

Frussies Deli – Frussies is a little deli just off Chapman Highway. The food is absolutely terrific, and the customer service is excellent. The owner of the deli will ask for your first name when you place your order, and he will remember it on your second visit. There was a gap of many months in between my first and second visit to Frussies, and the guy remembered my name! Frussies is a well-kept secret among South Knoxvillians, but there is definitely no shortage of patrons. I’ve never seen any advertising; it’s strictly word of mouth. I’ve also noticed that Frussies is among the highest scored restaurants in town for cleanliness.

Texas Roadhouse – I’m not a fan of fancy restaurants. I prefer casual places where I can just be myself. Texas Roadhouse is just that type of place. It has a relaxing atmosphere, complete with a big bucket of peanuts on each table. And you’ll be walking on peanut shells all the way to your table.

Mellow Mushroom – Mellow Mushroom is famous for its pizza, but I am crazy about their sandwiches. The first time I visited, I got a ham and cheese sandwich that was the best I’d ever had. It practically melted in my mouth. The Vegetarian Hoagie is also very yummy.

3. Tag five other people (preferably from other locations) and let them know they’ve been tagged.

Tom Grant, Clara*, Blue Sloth, bbsgirl, and MizMouthy
