As I mentioned in my last post, Cruella will be undergoing abdominal surgery next week. She will check into the hospital on Tuesday morning for prep work, and the surgery will be performed the following day. I spoke with her regular vet as well as two veterinary oncologists at UT today, and the consensus was that removal of the abdominal mass that was discovered Friday is Cruella’s best option. Once the tumor has been removed, the doctors will be able to identify it. It is unclear at this time what the tumor is attached to. If it is attached to her colon as the last one was, she is at high risk for developing peritonitis again.
I am emotionally distraught. Am I doing the right thing? What if the surgery causes more serious problems? That’s a possibility. But if I do nothing, the result could be even worse. The last abdominal mass was malignant. Is this one? I feel I’m trying to choose between the lesser of two evils, with absolutely no idea which one actually is less evil.
I’ll be taking some time off work directly following Cruella’s surgery so that I can keep a close watch on her. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Sending oodles of good thoughts and vibes your way! And you are totally doing the right thing, Tish. Don’t bother second guessing yourself, because there is no way of knowing what could happen either way. At least by doing the surgery you are being as pro-active as you can to attack the problem.

We hope the best outcome for the surgery.
