Hitting the Books

As most of you know, I received my PHR certification in December.  I’ve been studying on and off all year, but I’m now hitting the books a lot harder.  Why?  Because I’ll be testing for the SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) on December 1st!

Just like the PHR, this exam will cover the entire HR Body of Knowledge.  It will be weighted differently than the other exam, with a much heavier focus on Strategic Management.  It’s a difficult exam, but hopefully 11 years of HR experience, lots of related college courses, and months and months of studying SPHR prep books will be enough to get a passing score.  There are 225 questions on the exam, with a time limit of four hours.

I’m really excited, and equally nervous, about the upcoming exam.  It will cover the six areas of Human Resources - Strategic Management, Workforce Planning and Employment, Human Resource Development, Total Rewards, Employee and Labor Relations, and Risk Management.  Both the PHR and SPHR have a national pass rate of approximately 60%.  And I plan on being in that 60%!

So for the next four months, I may be scarce - at least in real life.  I can’t lose sight of my Total Money Makeover, so you can expect to see a Fenterdren review here and an acne cream review there, along with all the not-so-exciting details of my life.  With any luck, I’ll be SPHR certified on December 1st, and then I can focus on other things - like finding a boyfriend!
