I guess I spoke too soon. I came home from work yesterday to find Cruella sick and weak. I rushed her to the vet, and they checked her electrolytes. Her potassium and sodium were out of balance, so they speculated that her cortisol levels had dropped. She got a dose of prednisone and then I took her back home. I was supposed to take her back to the vet this morning to check the electrolytes again and give IV fluids if necessary.
Late last night, Cruella collapsed and had a difficult time getting back up. I called her regular vet, who told me to rush her to UT. When I got her to UT, Cruella acted like everything was fine! She looked like a healthy dog! UT decided to give her IV fluids to get the electrolytes back in balance and then run a full blood workup just to make sure there were no other problems. They said it could take a few hours to get the results, so they asked me to leave Cruella with them and go home. Assuming that the blood work looks okay and that they get her electrolytes back in balance, they would assume that the prednisone had done its job and there were no other issues to be concerned with.
I haven’t heard from them yet, so I just called to check on her. I was told only that she is resting comfortably in her cage and that a doctor would call me around 9 AM with an update. This is probably good news, but I’m still worried and anxious.
As far as my Total Money Makeover goes, it appears that I’ll have to take on a few extra blogging assignments to pay for the upcoming vet bill. But posting about CAT5e cables is the least I can do for my baby. Keep her in your prayers, please!
