As I mentioned a few posts ago, I just ordered Season 4 of Rescue Me. As I anxiously await its arrival, I have started watching the earlier seasons again. If you’ve ever watched the show, you know just how prevalent the word “asshole” is. Well, curiosity got the better of me. I decided to keep a running count of just how many times the word is used in the show. I just finished the pilot episode, and the word “asshole” was used 9 times! At 45 minutes of runtime, that’s an average of one asshole every five minutes! There are 13 episodes in the first season, so if it continues at the same pace, there should be approximately 117 assholes by the conclusion of the final episode . Multiply that by four seasons – 468 assholes! I’ll keep you posted as to the exact figures, but in the meantime, here’s a little something to hold you over.

Oh, the title of this post had me so curious as to what got you so mad, Tish! LOL. You are so funny. I cracked up when I realized you were just drooling over Denis Leary again! But hey – that is a lot of assholes. I think someone should have kept a count of the kills on The Sopranos too.

I would suspect that there was an “asshole quota” for the season.
“Episode Three… you get 11.”
“Cool.”
“But Episode 7… we got to cut you down to 4.
“Hey, no fair!”
“Look, the season closer has the need for a lot of assholes. So, we have to cut from here and there for this parting salvo.”
“K…. as long as it’s for art.”
“Oh, it’s a beauty… it sings! Like a delicate tango ballet of assholes traipsing toward a glorious crescendo.
“Oh, this I wanna see.”

I’m can’t wait for my copy of the fourth season to come in. I just finished watching season two of Supernatural. When you’re sitting home recovering from surgery you go through a season pretty quick. Once again thanks for alerting me to the great deal.
