Cruella was diagnosed with Cushing’s Disease today. The doctors have suspected it for some time, but she has always tested negative in the past. The disease is caused by a tumor located in an adrenal gland or the pituitary gland. Depending on the location of the mass, treatment will involve surgery or chemotherapy.

You may recall that Miss Molly also has Cushing’s Disease, but she has an atypical form that is manageable with melatonin and flaxseed oil with lignans. Unfortunately, Cruella’s treatment will be much more invasive.

Cushing’s Disease causes the body to overproduce cortisol, essentially poisoning the organs. It can lead to a number of serious health problems, some of which Cruella has already experienced. The doctors will be performing tests on Friday to determine the location of the tumor that is causing the problem. If operable, the disease can be cured; however, the surgery is extremely risky and must be performed by a very specialized surgeon. If surgery is not an option, or is decided against, the chemotherapy drug lysodren can be used to prevent the disease from progressing. Lots of Cushing’s Disease patients are able to live quality lives for years while on this medication. Unfortunately, the drug has serious risks of its own. It can sometimes be fatal.
