They’re Back!

You know how I said I rarely see a spider in the house now? I must have jinxed myself. I got up yesterday morning and saw a huge spider running across the kitchen floor. Orkin has definitely helped with the problem, but they haven’t addressed the real source. I’ve been telling them for a year now that the spiders live in my flower beds and manage to come in through the sliding glass doors. The Orkin man comes out and sprays inside my house - around all the doors and windows, and in the cracks and crevices. And yes, it helps. But there are still spiders living in the flower beds, and a few of them are still going to make it inside the house.

I have one treatment left to finish out my contract - in about two weeks. Yesterday I called around to try to find a better option, and I think I may have found it. I talked to Cook’s Pest Control. They charge $35 per month, but they treat EVERY MONTH! Orkin charges $71 per treatment and treats every other month. Of course, both services will come out between regular visits if you notice a problem, and there’s no additional cost. The biggest difference is that Cook’s told me that they guarantee a 10 foot perimeter around your house! No pests within 10 feet! That would take care of the spider problem. On their first visit, they spray both the inside to flush any pests out, and then they take care of the outside. Subsequent visits focus only on the outside to make sure that it remains pest free. Of course, they will also treat inside if you notice any problems.

I talked at great length to the Cook’s technician, explaining the problem I have. And I was quite impressed. I told him that I’d call him after I get that last treatment from Orkin. The price is still about the same, but I’ll have twice as many treatments - and they will focus on eliminating the spiders instead of just keeping them out of my house!

I watched a show on spiders and they say you are never more then fifty feet from a spider..inside or outside…I know we kill about three a day…is that excessive? Maybe we should be sprayed…I just thought it’s the way it is.

Teeni - Thanks, Teeni! I can’t wait till I have a pest free perimeter!

Maunee - That’s an interesting little factoid. Since I started using Orkin, though, I very rarely find a spider in the house. Of course, I know they’re all around the outside of the house. Ugh. Good luck with your spider problem! You should check out Cook’s as well.

    Kaylee - Thank you!

Oh that sucks. Spiders are soooo scary. I had a wolf spider in my house once and no joke it is as big as tarantula. Even my dog was afraid of it. I like the 10 foot guarantee. I wish they could do that in life. Lol no matter where you go, spiders stay 10 ft away!

Hey there. I’m the Assistant Vice President of Public Relations & Corporate Communications for Orkin, and I read your posting with great interest. Orkin also offers a monthly treatment plan, if that would be better for you. I know you just want the spiders gone - no matter how frequent the treatment - and I’m sure we can do better. If you’d like to e-mail me directly, I would love to work with you to get your problem straightened out. My e-mail address is mcraft@rollins.com.
    Thanks,
    Martha Craft

Why do you hate us so? We just want to come inside and watch TV at 3:30 in the morning. But you always wake up and scare us away before we can turn the TV off…

Maybe one day spiders and humans will live in harmony and eat flies together.
