As I mentioned just recently, my TV has been turning itself on for months - usually between 3 and 4 AM. Well, it happened again. At 3:39 AM, I woke to a blaring television. I got up, walked to the living room, saw a few seconds of an infomercial about Macular Degeneration, flipped off the TV, and then went back to bed. And I started to think.
When I watched the tube last night, it was a DVD - not a television show. This makes the puzzle even more complex. In order to turn my television on, someone would have had to not only press the power button, but also press a button to switch from video to television.
Everyone has given me suggestions for what could be causing the TV to magically turn on - a neighbor’s garage door opener, a short wave radio, a passing plane - but honestly, I have no clue what it could be. On my way back to bed this morning, I looked out the windows to check for activity in the neighborhood. I didn’t see a thing. No lights. No cars. No planes.
Maybe it really is a ghost.

maybe you should just be in the market for a new TV. Living alone, that would just freak me out! Maybe you’ve gotten used to it sort of??

Okay, but a ghost with macular degeneration? LOL

I think you should get a video camera and set it up at night, pointing in the direction of your tv

Amy - I bought the TV less than a year ago, and with the price I paid, I’m definitely not buying another anytime soon. And yes, it really freaked me out the first few times it happened. It still really startles me when it wakes me, but I have gotten kinda used to it. Nothing I can do but hope I don’t see something scary on the way to turn the TV off! Hmm. Maybe I should just get a man. Then I can wake him and send him to turn the TV off. hehehe.
Teeni - *LOL* indeed. A ghost with macular degeneration who enjoys watching the Tyra Banks show!
Mike - Ummm. Not sure I want to do that. At least now I don’t actually know what’s turning on the TV. If I actually saw a ghost and knew I had to live with it, I’d be totally freaked!

Why don’t you just pull the plug before you go to bed? That way if it STILL turns on, you know it’s time to get the #%$^ out of there.
They’re heeeeeeeereeeeee….

Man, I would freak. When I lived alone I would get spooked at the wind. Could it be sleep mode? Does that work in reverse? I know you can set a tv to turn off, can you set it to turn on? Maybe check the menu? Or like Lincoln said, MOVE. Lol!

Wow, that would thoroughlly freak me out! I actually believe in ghosts and am terrified of the idea of one being in my house.

Have you heard about the 3AM Phenomenon?
My own 3AM experience.

still happening? my mother’s tv has a wake mode that will turn the tv on at a time that’s been set in the menu. Like a television alarm clock. I use it when visiting. could that be it???
