I studied French for two years in high school, and ever since that time, I’ve had a burning desire to visit France. After discovering Why Travel to France, authored by an American now living in France, I think I just might have to plan that trip.
Why Travel to France is a blog dedicated to providing a detailed look at the many cultural aspects of the country. The archives date back to July 2005, so there is an abundance of information available at the click of your mouse. I find it particularly interesting, as it is written from an American woman’s perspective. Many of the things that are commonplace to the “frenchies”, are simply fascinating to the author - and to me.
As is typical when I review a blog, I visited the very first post. Squish! Oh Poo! focuses on France’s dog poo problem and how it is being dealt with. Sure, that might not be a selling point for France, but it sure does makes for an interesting post!
As a dog lover, I found it interesting that France is such a dog-friendly place. Did you know that dogs are allowed to accompany their owners nearly everywhere? According to the author, “dogs are simply given more respect and leeway in France.” They are “much more well-behaved and not only that, they are much cleaner that their American counterparts.”
One of my favorite features of the site is the food category. The photos are simply amazing. Though my mouth waters while just looking at them, I’m not sure I could bring myself to actually eat the French delicacies. They are works of art. Just take a look at this photo which appeared on the site as part of the Friday France Photo series.

Why Travel to France is an amazing blog full of beautiful photos and fascinating stories about the many France secrets that await you. It’s a must read for anyone who is considering a visit, as well as those who just love to learn about other cultures.

Mum studied French in HS too! But doesn’t remember a thing. Love the fact that dogs are first class citizens there, maybe we should visit too!

I spent a few days in France right after college. And you’re right. Dogs are treated like regular citizens. Heck, they were treated better than us American tourists I’ll tell ya!
Interesting site, though, Tish. I’m curious to learn the many secrets France has to offer, as I didnt’ get to see much more than the usual tourist attractions.

Hey Tish,
How are you?
Well, I have lived in France (for an year and a half) and I can tell you that the food is good, however the cakes and pastry is not (it looks good, but the taste isn’t that great).
France is a gorgeous place to visit and live. Many things are told about the French, is true; but once they get to know you they are affable people :).
I wish you go there :)!
Cheers

Do it! I’ve been to Paris twice, and it’s wonderful. And, yes, it was very dog-friendly even then (this was years ago). My mom and I still laugh about seeing a large dog run around a corner, run into a bakery, then poke its head back out the door to wait for its owner to catch up.
