When Real Life Gets in the Way of Blogging…

Contrary to popular belief, I actually do have a life outside my blogs. I somehow manage to squeeze it all into the three or four hours per day that I’m not cranking out posts.

Okay, so I don’t quite blog that much, but I would if I could.

My blogging has suffered lately, and for that I apologize. For the past four months, I’ve been studying for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification exam, which I will be taking on Saturday. Having only a few days left, I’ve had my face buried in books for hours on end lately. To give you a little information on the exam, here is what Wikipedia has to say. “The Professional in Human Resources (PHR) is an industry certification for people working in the human resources profession. The certification, awarded by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI), signifies that individuals possess the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating a mastery of the body of knowledge in the field.” Rigorous indeed. The test consists of 225 questions covering six areas – Strategic Management, Workforce Planning and Employment, Human Resource Development, Total Rewards, Employee and Labor Relations, and Risk Management. I have four hours to complete the exam. I won’t receive my score until a week or two later, but I will know whether I passed or failed on the day of the exam. Wish me luck!

I had the pleasure of meeting Tommy of Big Stupid Tommy on Sunday evening. He is just as interesting and funny in person as on his blog, and he’s a true gentleman as well. I am happy to report that I have moved up the ranks from the “people he can only assume are real” to the “real people that he has met” list in his sidebar.

I had a nice Christmas even though I spent most of it studying. I made a great little Christmas meal, and I got some really awesome gifts. My dogs made out like bandits. They got lots of toys and treats from me, and even more from my parents!

I plan on ringing in the New Year with Barry and his band, the Atomic Horns. The show will be held at the Eagles Club in Oak Ridge. I hope that some of you will decide to come out and join us. Rumor has it that Barry will be doing an Elvis impersonation!

That’s it for now, folks. I’ll hopefully be back to my old blogging self this weekend!

If we didn’t have a life outside of blogging, it’s nice to think we wouldn’t have anything to blog about. But, I’m finding that actually having a life gets in the way of blogging too much, as opposed to when I had no friends. Still haven’t decided which is better.

Tish, best of the best of luck with the test. Though knowing how much you’ve insanely studied for this thing, I’m guessing you won’t even need the full 4 hours to finish off that sucker.

And your dogs scored some great Xmas gifts from you and your family, but what did they get for you? (The dogs I mean. :) )
