Welcome to the second edition of Thursday Thoughts - written on a Friday! Here are some of the Google searches that led readers to my blog over the past week - along with my responses for each.
“drunk Cootie Brown”
You may have noticed that I have an entire category dedicated to Cootie Brown. Practically everyone in the South has heard of Cootie Brown, and most of us have been compared to him. “He was drunker than Cootie Brown!” No one seems to know exactly what Cootie did or when he did it, but one thing is certain. He got plastered and left his mark on the world. As you can tell, Cootie continues to be the subject of many Google searches. Rarely a day goes by that someone doesn’t visit my blog in search of good ol’ Cootie!
“poor as Cootie Brown”
This is a new one for me. I can only assume that Cootie drank his dollars away.
“how to do the Cootie Brown dance”
Wow. The man has a dance named after him?! His reputation must be more widespread than I thought! Just don’t attempt this this dance during the course of a routine sobriety checkpoint.
“random stupid facts”
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, Cootie Brown lived along the Mason-Dixon line at the start of the Civil War. He had family on both sides. Not wanting to get drafted by the North or the South, he decided to get drunk - and stay drunk. Drunkenness has been measured against him ever since!
“10 reasons why you are single”
One reason is big enough to overshadow all the rest. I spend far too much time researching Cootie Brown!

Graham - Apparently Thursdays are the only days I do any real thinking!
Glad you liked the post! And please be sure to share your Cootie Brown findings with me.

Mush - If you believe the Farmer’s Almanac, he did.

Ok, how did I grow up in the South and spend my first 33 years there and never hear of “Cootie Brown?” This is a new one for me. Never heard of it before.

Tish, I have never heard o’ Cootie Brown before. Sorry. As you pointed out, it’s pretty much a Southern thing I take it. Heck, the only Cooties I know of (besides the ones all the girls in elementary school had) is the game where you roll a die and put together your own little cooties figure.
