It’s no secret that I’m a huge movie buff. My DVD collection rivals that of Blockbuster! I spend many an evening sitting on the couch, watching flicks. I’ve seen lots of good ones, but let me tell you about one that really impressed me.
My favorite actor is Jack Black, and I collect all his movies. I went to Blockbuster the other day and picked up used copies of The Holiday and Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny. I haven’t watched Tenacious D yet, but I did watch The Holiday, and it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time.
The cast includes Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and of course, Jack Black. In the story, two women with less than perfect love lives decide they need vacations to escape the men who have so royally screwed them over. Diaz lives in L.A.; Winslet lives in England. The two women meet on a home exchange website and decide to swap homes for two weeks. Their lives take very positive turns as they fall in love with new countries, new ways of life, and ultimately – new men. I know it sounds like a chick flick, and maybe it is, but you men will enjoy the movie as well. It is chock full of humor and will keep you laughing. And you’ll cry a few times too. This is an absolutely fantastic film – one that I will definitely watch again.
By the way, if any of you are members of Netflix, please add me to your friends list. My email is chattiekat@gmail.com. I’d love to swap movie recommendations!

My Mum loves Jack Black too! I’ll tell her to check out that movie. Mum’s weird sometimes but one of her favorite movies is School of Rock!

Big Jack Black fan…I added that one to my queue, too. Every now and then, I’ll look at my queue, and forget completely what that one is. I haven’t moved it up because it looked a little chick flicky…I might get brave enough to watch it….

Jack Black’s your favorite actor!? Well in truthfulness, I haven’t even seen School of Rock yet, so maybe I should just keep my big mouth shut. (#);)

It took me a while to warm to Jack Black, but by School of Rock I was a fan. Comedy is my favorite genre of film. (Ooh, that sounds pretentious) Anything will Bill Murry, the Coehn brothers, or Adam Sandler. Of course Monty Python goes without saying. My favorite is the Meaning of Life. “What’s wrong with a kiss, boy?”

I rented the Holiday about a month ago. I thought it was a great story…a bit LONG, but that’s only because my attention span doesn’t last very long. ha GREAT FLICK!!!

If you’re in the mood for really weird Jack black, you can go all the way back to Bob Roberts, which is more of a Tim Robbins movie, but Jack has a bit part as a weird stalker.
My favorite is still his part in High Fidelity, though School of Rock is pretty good as well. I just couldn’t see sitting through Tenacious D… then again, I’ve seen other movies on TV that ended up being pretty good (even though I swore I would never watch them).
