Mike from Ordinary Folk tagged me for this very interesting writing assignment. If the blogosphere were coming to an end 24 hours from now, what would your final post be? Would you go out with a bang, or as softly as a whisper? Would you say “goodbye and good riddance” and give us the virtual finger? This is your chance to make your mark on the blogosphere.
Now, without further ado, here is my final post to the blogosphere.
I’ve been blogging for nearly three years, and it has been a truly remarkable experience. What started as a tool for preserving personal thoughts and memories has evolved into something much more. Blogging has become as much a part of my life as eating, breathing, and sleeping.
Through my blog, I have gotten back in touch with old friends and made dozens of new ones. I’ve honed my photography skills. I’ve participated in community art projects, and I’ve gotten half-nekkid for the pure enjoyment of it. I have discovered that I’m famous and some would say hot. I have found love, and I’ve lost it.
These last three years have been emotional ones. I’ve laughed. I’ve cried. But above all else, I have smiled. And today, as the blogosphere comes to an end, I smile.
I smile for the hundreds of bloggers whose words have inspired me.
I smile for the special connections that I’ve made.
I smile for Judson Cavalier, a beautiful man whom I never had the pleasure of meeting, but will now never forget.
I smile for the memories that I will carry with me for a lifetime.
I smile. And I hope that you’ll smile with me.
A meme wouldn’t be a meme without a few tags, so I tag Flat Coke and Flies, Groanin’ Jock, and The Wandering Author. And even if you didn’t get tagged, feel free to participate!
Addendum: In response to my tag, The Wandering Author has written an incredible post. I tagged him for this exercise because I knew that he’d make me proud. His words are never short of amazing. Please take a moment to read his Final Words to the Blogosphere.

Thanks for the link - I’m glad I caught back up with you too.
I’m just trying to figure out the significance that you linked me to the world “old” and Michael to the world “friend”….

Mike ~ Thankfully it’s not a real goodbye! I’d miss our chats!
Barry ~ No significance at all! I promise!

Jan ~ I certainly hope it’s a hypothetical. I don’t want the blogosphere to disappear tomorrow.
You should participate in the meme as well! And thanks for the compliment on my blog.
Tom ~ Thanks so much! Compliments like that mean so much to me! Have a great night!

Hey, thanks for catching that typo AND updating me on your new blog address. Oh, and can you send your email address to my hotmail address, please? In all of these notes we’ve exchanged through our blogs, I don’t have your email! And by the way, was looking through some of your old blog posts and ran across your HNT entries. Absolutely lovely. They were stunning. Too bad you stopped them, however. And despite that negative comments about them being too revealing, I think they were all tastefully done. (And if I wasn’t married, I wouldn’t mind a taste. LOL)

Tish, my post is up if you’re interested. Thanks for tagging me; that was interesting. I’ve never really stopped and thought about what blogging meant to me. When I considered the idea of the blogosphere ending in 24 hours, well, you can read about that on my blog.
By the way, I agree with the others about the design. I like it! Coming from someone who fancies himself a typographer (yes, I know! I haven’t had time to tweak my template, and I keep hoping to find the time to move to WordPress) that isn’t something I say lightly. Thanks again for making me think.

Brian ~ You’re welcome! And thanks for your email. I’ll answer it shortly.
As for the comment about my HNT entries, *blush*. Thank you. *LOL* about the “taste” comment! Have a great day.
Wandering Author ~ I can’t wait to read your post! I’m heading over there right after this comment! Thanks so much for the kind words about my blog! And I’m glad I made ya think!

Mark ~ Thanks! It’s a great post! And it’s nice to know your real name!

A short thank you to all and then I would go off in search of somewhere happy to be when it all goes down.
I spend too much time on the Internet as is, but that’s ok - with time left to go, it seems like a good way to express myself.

Dan ~ Great thoughts. And it’s definitely a nice way to express yourself!
