In Over My Head

I had some serious blog issues last night.  I got the brilliant idea that I should set up a web hosting account outside WordPress.  I repointed the name servers, and it was all downhill from there!  My apologies go out to all of you who tried to view my blog while it was unavailable, which was damn near all night.  And thanks to Mark at blogitude.com for suggesting that I put everything back on the WordPress servers until I know what the hell I’m doing.

I have imported all my old posts and comments from Blogger, which was quite a task.  I ended up with two of every single post, and I had to manually delete the duplicates.  Oy.  I’m now in the process of categorizing the posts.  I should be able to finish that tonight.  Then I need to work on the sidebars, which is no doubt going to be troublesome.  I have no idea how to access the code.  And though I am decently skilled with HTML, I have no idea what PHP is.  And apparently I need to use it.  This is going to be quite the learning experience!

Thank you to Perry and Mike, fellow members of KnoxBloggers, who emailed me this morning and offered to assist this poor girl who is drowning in a sea of geekdom.

As far as WordPress goes, I have been checking out all the features, and I am quite impressed.  There are so many options!  It’s a blogger’s dream come true.

Speaking of blogging, I’m going to sign up for Blogathon 2007, which will be held in July.  You may remember my posts about Barry’s participation last year.  I really enjoyed staying up all night and reading his posts right as they came off the presses!  For those of you who are unfamiliar with Blogathon, it is a 24 hour event in which bloggers come together and blog for a variety of charities.  Participating bloggers must post at least every 30 minutes for the full 24 hours.

Stay tuned for more blogging mishaps.

Count me in for Blogathan 2007, too, if I’m available.

And Tish I’d be glad to help if you have any computer problems, too.

What happened to your web cam pics? They were here and then they were gone……

Sorry it was an issue. Yeah, php can get pretty hairy. I’ll look for some friendlier resources and send them your way.

    Cangrats on completing the move!

Once you get the hang of where everything is, and how it all works, you will never look back at blogspot.com. :)

  16. Barry Says:

There are definite advantages to blogging from the tub. But only if you have a wireless keyboard…

And my kids might wonder what I’m up to…

  17. chattiekat Says:

Bucky ~ Thank you! I don’t quite have the hang of where everything is, but I do know that I’m never looking back at blogspot.com!

Barry ~ *LOL* Make sure you set up a live video feed on your blog.

Barry ~ Your first comment just showed up – in my spam folder! I identified it as spam, so hopefully you won’t have more problems with it. So glad you’ll be doing Blogathon this year! If you would like to split a 24 hour shift, let me know. I’d be honored to blog with you. hehe. Or, we could both blog for 24 hours straight. hehe.
