I am happy to say that Cruella is doing much better. I got to take her home yesterday!! She is still a bit weak and has been sleeping for hours on end, but it appears that she is well on the road to recovery! The doctors have recommended that she rest and get well over the next two weeks, and then they will start testing her for cancer. Abdominal masses like the one she had tend to spread first to the spleen, liver, and lungs. Her regular vet and the University did chest x-rays, which were clear. Her liver enzymes are extremely high, which could mean that the cancer has gotten to her liver, but there are lots of other conditions that can cause those enzymes to be elevated as well. We will just have to wait for the oncology reports in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I’m just happy to have her back home. And she’s definitely glad to be back home!

Hi, So sorry to read of your recent difficulties with Cruella and Molly . . . but it’s always a comfort - for you and them - when they come home.
Not sure through which link I stumbled on your blog, but glad I did. I lived in Knoxville and vicinity for 10 years and taught at UT. Lived in the 4th and Gill neighborhood for several, then up to Norris for a couple, then back to south of the river off Chapman Highway - like you, if the blog map is accurate - for the last couple. Loved the beauty of the area . . . and the cost of living. Never quite grew accustomed to the degree of conservatism however.
Now living in New York City, but still keep in touch with my KnoxVegas friends and revisit the area occasionally.
Hang in there!
My blog, btw, is:

Tish,
Thanks for the kind words earlier re. my paintings. Would love to swap stories of E. Tenn., but obviously not through your blog comments!
Hmmmm, not finding an email address for you here (and not sure if there was even one for me on my own blog. Here’s mine:
briantn35@hotmail.com
(That hotmail address is so old that it still has the “tn” from when i lived in the Volunteer State . . . 8 years ago!)

I’m glad she’s home.
Pick up the book Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats. I think diet and vitamins and homeopathic remedies can really make a difference. Traditional vets don’t normally take the same approach. Dr. Pitcairn is a naturopath for animals.
And I’m sending lots of positive vibes to your baby.

Wonderful news. Make sure to give her lots of treats, hugs and warm spots to sleep and I’m sure that she will bounce back like a champ.

Ummm, just a question… have you seen the news about the recalled dog foods? Apparently they’re causing crazy kidney problems. Go to Petsmart.com to see the list of them. Made me think of Molly.
