Is There a Plumber in the House?

As most of you know, my house is a “money pit” when it comes to plumbing. Out of curiosity, I should total up all my receipts for plumbing repairs. I can almost bet it comes to at least $5,000! A frozen pipe here, a water leak there – it has been adding up for nearly 7 years now. I don’t know if I can take it any longer!

When I heard that it was going to be in the ‘teens on Sunday night, I turned on the faucets so that they were trickling throughout the night. The majority of my plumbing problems have originated from the crawl space under one of the bathrooms. When I got up on Monday morning, I immediately went to check the sink in that bathroom. Not a single drip in sight! I turned the faucet all the way on, and nothing! Not a drop! I knew that the line was frozen, but I didn’t hear the tell-tale noise of water running from some mysterious, distant location. I figured that maybe the pipe would thaw during the day and that I’d have normal plumbing again. When I got home, I went to the bathroom, and I heard it. Oh, God! Not again! Why me?

The plumber got to my house around 6:45, and he didn’t leave until 3 hours later! He fixed the broken pipe and did some insulating around the crawlspace door. Hopefully this will keep the same problem from happening again. Thank goodness I have found a reputable, and fairly inexpensive, plumber in my neighborhood. Three hours of labor plus parts. Total damages $137.32!

Some people hire live-in nannies, housekeepers, or gardeners. I’m beginning to think I should hire a live-in plumber. And since some poor sucker (my brother) will be buying the house once I find another one, the plumber wouldn’t even have to move! He could just transfer to my brother’s payroll! He’d be guaranteed a pretty good living throughout the 30 year mortage – and probably beyond. If you’re interested in an excellent paying plumbing job with full retirement benefits, be sure to call my brother!

I can certainly sympathize! 3 nights of single digit temps finally got to our RV water lines- I’m shocked that it took so long. Fortunately, we didn’t need any expensive repairs-just a heater at the frozen part to thaw it out. Good plumbers are every bit as important as good doctors!

OMG, I can’t believe your having to suffer like this. There are any number of ways to prevent frozen pipes. I used to work for a plumber so I know. Do yourself a favor, and Google for “frozen pipes” for a lot of suggestions.
