From the very beginning, I knew that Brico was special – unlike any other guy I’ve ever known. We started reading and commenting on each other’s blogs within days of my Blogger discovery in August 2005.

I got my first email from Brico on November 2, 2005, prompted in part by a post I did about Florida Boy. I had been talking to Florida Boy for a couple of months, but we had not yet met in person. We finally set a date to meet halfway, and a few days before the meeting, he suddenly canceled on me. Our internet relationship came to an abrupt halt. Anyway, I posted about the situation on my blog, and shortly afterward I received an email from Brico. Since I’ve saved all of our emails, I can give you an exact quote.

At the end of his email, after consoling me about Florida Boy, Brico said, “by the way, I would never get cold feet if it meant I could sit across the table from that face and spend an evening bringing out your smile and a few laughs. And if you think I’m kidding…(his phone number)…just try me!! Seriously”

Well, I did give Brico a jingle, and we proceeded to have many wonderful email and phone exchanges. In no time, I was crazy about him. Then he dropped a bomb that he had been talking to another Blogger and would be meeting her soon. He expected things to go well, and he didn’t want to mislead me. If only we’d met earlier…

Brico’s email on November 9, 2005 makes me smile to this day.

“Suffice to say I have enjoyed our conversations immensely! Highlites of my evenings now. And again I say how regretful I am that we didn’t start communicating earlier. I saw your energy/radiance and thought ‘she certainly has way too many guys interested in her, I’m going to leave this one alone’. Glad I was wrong. Wish I had realized I was wrong months ago.”

It’s somewhat humorous as I look back on this email, and on the many others. Though I was sad and hurt at the time, I developed an incredible amount of respect and trust for Brico when I received that email. I have completely trusted him ever since.

It’s not often that we get second chances in life. I’m glad I got this one with Brico.
