Molly has been sick for the last several days, so I took her to the vet this morning. She’ll be just fine, but as for me, that might be a different story. I have a serious pain in the pocketbook.
Molly has had vomiting and other gastro-intestinal problems for the last three days, so that was the primary reason for the visit. I suspected that she also had an ear infection, and she has been chewing on one of her feet, so I wanted to get that checked out as well.
It seems that she has some sort of gastritis. She will be eating a prescription food for the next several days, and she will be taking pills to clear up the condition. She has a serious yeast infection in her right ear. I have to use a prescription ear cleaning fluid and prescription ear drops to clear up the infection. As for the chewing on her foot, it was diagnosed as Lick Granuloma, which is apparently a fairly common condition in Labrador Retrievers. It is treated with antibiotics and antihistamines. She’ll take a round of antibiotics, and she will have to stay on the antihistimines to keep the problem from recurring.
She got her annual health exam, her Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo vaccinations, her heartworm examination, and a three month supply of flea control/heartworm preventive pills. Total damage – $320!
Now for the really bad part – Cruella has an appointment for her annual exam and vaccinations next Saturday morning. I may be taking a part-time job to pay the vet bill!
Here’s a photo of Molly that my mom took when we went to visit her right after the vet appointment.

Molly obviously knows you care for her, though. Look at that expression!
Everyone who has owned a pet has probably had sticker shock once or twice after visiting the vet, but it could be worse. The next to the last time I took my cat in, she had to have an operation and the bill was over $400.
The last time I took her in, the euthanasia cost less than half that. Funny, it didn’t seem like that much of a bargain.

What a pretty girl. Yup I think I have put my Vets kids through college & send them to Disney World several times!

Kev ~ Thanks for the support. Sorry about your cat. I know it was hard to have her euthanized. You should get another pet.
Tart ~ Thanks! Sorry you’ve had to pay so much to the vet, but it’s worth every penny to keep the pets happy and healthy, isn’t it?

Kids are cheaper, aren’t they?

All my best to Molly, it sounds like you are a good dog-mom. Hopefully the visit next week won’t cost nearly as much!

You just reminded me to give Charlie his medication…thanks!
I just took a $400.00 hit at the vet for the same thing, upset stomach and not eating.
He’s fine now and I’m poorer.
