As you all know, I love theatre. Unfortunately, most of my friends don’t. I had two season subscriptions to Clarence Brown Theatre last year, and it was so difficult for me to find a date to each of the plays. Well, I won’t have that problem this season, because I’m not taking a date! I just ordered my CBT subscription - one ticket to each play. I’m really looking forward to this season. Here’s the lineup.
- Born Yesterday - Corrupt, loud-mouthed junkyard tycoon Harry Brock descends upon Washington D.C. to buy himself a congressman or two, bringing with him his girlfriend, ex-showgirl Billie Dawn. Brock hires a handsome journalist to “put her wise to a few things” and gets more than he bargains for!
- All My Sons - During World War II, Joe Keller’s business knowingly sold defective airplane parts to the Army, causing the deaths of 21 men. Now, life’s circumstances cause the events to resurface, forcing Keller to deal with the real costs of his American dream.
- The Laramie Project - The true story of the town of Laramie in the wake of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay student at the University of Wyoming.
- A Year with Frog and Toad - A musical based on the award-winning series of children’s books, the charming Frog and “worry-wart” Toad leap off the pages to celebrate the idea that having a very best friend is about as good as life gets.
- Fences - Troy Maxson, a fiercely proud garbage collector living in a tenement in 1950’s Pittsburgh, was once a talented baseball player barred from the major leagues by the color line. Now, Troy’s son must confront his own barriers – the scars of his father’s disappointment.
- Assassins - This musical sideshow turns its ironic eye on the variety of misfits and malcontents whose sad version of the American dream turn toward political assassination. Ranging from John Wilkes Booth to John Hinckley, Jr., a look at the darkest side of the American story.
- A Shakespeare Project: King Lear - An eight-actor experimental version of Shakespeare’s King Lear.
- A Flea in Her Ear - To test her husband’s fidelity, Raymonde has her best friend, Lucienne write an anonymous love letter suggesting a rendezvous at a disreputable hotel. The plan is thrown into chaos when Lucienne’s husband intercepts the letter.
I’ve never seen any of these plays performed before, so I’m really excited. I am especially looking forward to Fences - for obvious reasons! The first play starts in late August! Expect a post about each show.

That does not surprise me that Brico wants to see the frog and toad one, he is the reversal of the Handsome Prince fairy tale.

Cool, they’re doing “Assassins”… next to “Sweeney Todd” it’s one of my very favorite Sondhiem shows! Looks like a good season over all. Enjoy.

I’m a theater ignoramus, but I’ve usually enjoyed it when I’ve gone.

Great schedule!! I especially like, “All My Sons” and “The Laramie Project” (especially living about an hour away from Laramie, Wyo).
And of course anything Shakespeare…especially, “Hamlet.”
Enjoy!!
