I’ve mentioned several times in the past that I’d like to be a vegetarian. Well, today makes one week without any meat in my diet! Surprisingly, it has been easier than I thought it would be, in part because Brico has shown me some good meat alternatives such as veggie burgers and other soy-based meat substitutes.
I knew that the real test would be at a baseball game. I always enjoy a chili dog while rooting on the home team. Would I be able to survive nine innings without one?
Kevin and I went to see the Smokies play on Saturday night. As I went up to the concession stand to get my usual gallon jug of Mountain Dew, I took a look at the hotdogs. All of a sudden, I felt nauseous. Could only a few days of this newfound vegetarianism produce such extreme results? I wouldn’t have thought so, but it must be the case. Every time I’ve thought about meat products since that time, I’ve been sick to my stomach.
I’ve been eating lots of vegetables, fruits, and meat substitutes. I’m excited to be doing as well as I’m doing. My goal with this diet change is to live a more healthy life and to encourage my body to shed a few pounds in the right places. In combination with this effort, I am also going to the gym. Wish me luck!

Where …. where are you going to shed those pounds? I haven’t seen any extra spaces. Maybe you should show a few pics to illustrate! Yeah that’s it. Congrats on the healthier diet though. Your body will thank you for it when you are ancient and decrepit like me.

WAY TO GO!!!! We went veggie last August and haven’t looked back. Partly we did it for health reasons and partly for religious reasons (being Buddhist).
I too get sick to my stomach when I see real meat products. Especially seeing those hunks of flesh at the grocery store…YUCK!!! That meat was someone’s mother or father or child.
You are right about the wide variety of soy based meat substitutes on the market now.
We have breakfact burritos on saturday mornings and the soy sausage tastes just like the original stuff!!!
We also eat soy taco meat substitute and I personally think it tastes better then the real stuff and with less fat!!
Again, congrats and keep at it!!!

I went vegan for a month on a bet that I couldn’t do it. I made it, and I did drop a significant amount of weight, even in just a month. Now, if we could talk about the health consequences of drinking mountain dew…

The veggie burgers are really good grilled.
My hat’s off to you I don’t think I could do it.

Brico ~ Somehow I knew you were going to say that!
TG ~ Thanks! And there’s no way in hell that I’m showing pics of my extra spaces. *LOL*
James ~ Thanks for the support! As for the soy taco meat, yummm…
Love you, babe!
Wanderinggirl ~ Fortunately, I don’t drink much soda when I’m not at the ballgames. Unfortunately, I make up for it with those gallon jugs at the concession stand!
Red ~ Thanks for the support! You know, I could always use a partner to keep me motivated! C’mon, you can do it!
DrM2B ~ Nice philosophy!

Congratulations on the new diet, but don’t move too fast or the cravings will start to kick in and then the risk of blowing the whole thing compounds.

That’s awesome girl, wishing you all the best and keep me posted on how it goes, how you feel etc.
I’ve been considering it myself so maybe I could pick yours or Brico’s brain sometime.

My mom became a vegetarian years ago when I was a kid and her one downfall was that she loved Jack in the Box hamburgers. Eventually though, she too, got sick when she smelled, saw, thought of meat. She is a vegetarian to this day!!!

Oddly enough I was talking to Mini Red about this today. On top of that I bought a magazine that showed tons of grilled veggies.
You will be the first to know if we finally move that direction.
Keep up the good work and I will keep an eye out for veggie recipies.
