I’ve Learned My Lesson

I’ve always hated Quentin Tarantino films. I don’t know why I expected Hostel to be any different. Just like Tarantino’s other movies, it was full of nothing but nudity, sex, and violence.

I enjoy supernatural horror and psychological thrillers, but I don’t enjoy slasher flicks. They are too real for me. Why waste my time watching one when I can just flip on the 6:00 News and see the same thing?

If you like Natural Born Killers, Pulp Fiction, and Kill Bill, you’ll probably enjoy Hostel. As for me, I’ve learned my lesson. No more Tarantino! The only thing I admire about him is that he’s from Knoxville.

*My sincerest apologies to Brico. I was supposed to see this movie with him, but I got bored and went ahead and watched it. And there’s no way that I’m sitting through it again!*

see, when pulp fiction came out everyone was saying that pulp fiction was sooo violent. i challenge somebody to add up all the ‘violent’ scenes in that fine film. sure, that one kid gets his head shot off, the pawn shop guy gets a sword across his chest and vincent vega gets shot in the chest but these are all scenes that last about a grand total of 2 seconds. the other 109 minutes and 58 seconds is just dialogue and tension. alot of screaming and cursing and descriptions that make you feel gross under your skin but no more violence.

I’m with Brico – Movies actually directed by Tarantino have v. little nudity/sex in them. The violence is usually so OTT it’s hard to really take seriously and often isn’t even shown (like the ear lopping scene in Reservoir Dogs).

I’ve yet to see a Tarantino penned film directed by anyone else that I actually enjoyed. Natural Born Killers was awful and From Dusk Til Dawn was utter garbage.

His use of dialogue is extremely good and although his ideas are not entirely original, he’s certainly got a knack for spinning a good yarn.

    I’ve never liked him either.
