Artistic Expression Friday #1

Last night, Osbasso asked me what I had lined up for today. After all, there was Self Portrait Tuesday, Way Back Wednesday, and Things I Love Thursday. Since I was experimenting with charcoal pencils while chatting with him, I decided to make today Artistic Expression Friday!

If you recall, I posted a drawing of myself last week for Self Portrait Tuesday. It was the first drawing I’d done in about 15 years. I actually used to be pretty good when it came to art, but I am way out of practice. I’ve never really worked with charcoal, but I picked some up at the art supply store the other day. Last night was as good a time as any to give it a try.

I’m still not too sure what to think. Using charcoal pencils can be best described as drawing with crayons. I’m used to a fine tipped pencil, and the charcoal was difficult for me to use. I think I’ll like charcoal pencils when I learn how to function with them.

Anyway, I spent about 15 minutes on this piece. I now give you Tish’s first charcoal drawing!

I thought that Artistic Expression Friday would give us all the opportunity to show off some of our talents, or in my case, lack thereof. hehe. Feel free to showcase any and all art forms - drawing, painting, photography, poetry, music - whatever you’d like! And let me know that you’ve posted something! I hope to start a separate blog for Artistic Expression Friday. I’ll let you know when and if that happens. Have a great day!

Good job! I like charcoal pencils a lot. If you wanna get really crazy make the pic really dark and smudgy and then draw the white space with an eraser. Really a different, cool effect.

Charcoal has always been my favorite medium…both to draw with and to look at.

I like it. You capture yourself very well. :)
