Friend Profile # 6 - George

George and I met via Yahoo Personals in August 2003. Our relationship was quite rocky; we were together off and on for about nine months. It all ended on a very bad note, and I figured that we’d never be able to salvage our friendship.

After our horrible breakup, George and I eventually started communicating again by email, but there were lots of hard feelings. I still remember an email that I received from him in April 2005. He was engaged and would be getting married in August. He had been trying to find a way to tell me for two months. I was at work when I read that email, and you cannot imagine the pain I felt. I immediately burst into tears. As much as I had tried to get over him, I had been hanging on to a hope that eventually George and I would get back together and live happily ever after. In a futile attempt at making myself feel better, I lashed out at him. I said some things I shouldn’t have said, and he did the same.

A few months passed, and we started emailing each other again. By that time, I had accepted the situation and had moved on. It sure wasn’t an easy road, but since that time, George and I have become great friends. We email each other on a regular basis, and I tell him things that I wouldn’t dare tell anyone else. He always gives terrific advice when it comes to my guy problems, and believe me - I never have a shortage of guy problems!

George is now happily married. He just recently completed his Master’s degree in Early American History, and he works in the banking industry. He spends a considerable amount of his time writing, and is in the process of trying to publish some of his works. As a matter of fact, his most recent blog post mentions his short story “Chatty”, inspired by yours truly! The story doesn’t paint the prettiest picture of me, considering that George was drunk and pissed off at me when he wrote it. Still, it’s quite flattering to think that I inspired a written work! Perhaps one day you’ll see it in a magazine or a collection of George’s short stories. I’m still waiting for it to be published so that I can read it! Yes, you read that correctly. George has yet to agree to let me read the story that only I could make him angry enough to write!

I now realize that George and I just weren’t meant to be more than friends, but I am so thankful for his friendship. Even though our brief romantic relationship left much to be desired, I hold no grudges toward him, and I know that he feels the same about me.

As I mentioned, George maintains his own blog, The Gargoyle View. He recently commented on it that I am his one and only loyal reader. How about we change that? It’s a shame that such inspiring words reside on his page, and I am the only one who knows about it! Please take a moment, visit his page, and leave a comment at least to say hello.

George, thanks for being such a great friend! And how about sending me that story? ;)

I imagine he’s not showing you the stuff he wrote about you because he’s scared it’ll ruin your friendship again!

I hope when you do read it you cut him some slack!

I’ll take a look at his blog RIGHT NOW!
