Possum in the Basement

I just saw the neatest thing! My dogs were standing at the door that leads down to the basement, and they were barking their heads off. I opened the door, flipped on the light, and there stood a ‘possum! It didn’t seem very scared. It just turned around and went back down the stairs. Now, as some of you know, I rarely wear clothes around the house. I ran to get my camera and thought, “Do I have time for clothes? Nahhh…” Still, part of me was a bit afraid that the thing would pounce on me while I was naked. Not that clothes would have been a lot of protection, but hey, I’ll take whatever I can get. Anyway, I ran down the stairs, full nekkid, to get a photo, but the little fella (actually, he wasn’t too little) was nowhere to be found. I’m not going to worry too much about it, because he obviously found a way in. I’m sure he’ll find a way out. That was pretty cool though.

You want possums? We have ‘em all over. Stupid ones, too. Apparently, they like to taunt to dogs. May be some kind of possum gang initiation ritual. They’re either getting smarter, or the dogs have managed to thin the herd. They still show up on the patio to scavenge the cats’ food. Did you see the cute widdle fangs? Awwww….

My dog, Guido - the great rodent killer, has over the years presented me with at least 3 tree possums. Rodents are not safe in my backyard.

Chased a possum (we don’t need no silent letters in the South) off the patio last night. It got my mother talking about her grandmother cooking them. Not something I’m tempted to try (like chitterlings — just to prove I know the correct spelling although we all know they’re chittlins).

I’m impressed you can see the beauty and cuteness in a ‘possum. I think they’re one of the ugliest critters God invented.

The ‘possum that visits us is WAY noisy. I think there’s a burglar in the backyard when I hear it.

Am I the only one who’s going to make the comment about her being completely nekkid, in the basement, with a camera? And no documentation????
