The Eternal Student

Going to school while working a full-time job really sucks. Another semester begins on Wednesday, and I am really dreading it. I’m only taking two classes this semester - Accounting I and Management Information Systems. It’s all I will be able to handle with the increasing responsibilities of my job. It took me three years to get my Associate’s degree. Not too bad considering all the hours I was working. I even graduated Magna Cum Laude. I transferred to Carson-Newman College two years ago, and I’m hoping to finish my Bachelor’s degree by Fall 2006. It may, however, take until Spring 2007. When will it ever end???

You can’t imagine how depressing it is to go from work to class, and then finally get home at 10 PM. Having only a few short hours until bedtime, and trying to figure out how to squeeze in housework, studying, and a social life. The classes I’m taking this semester are both online courses, so I’m hoping that it won’t be too bad. I love being in front of my computer - chatting, blogging, browsing. But the thought of spending hours logged in to an online course is not exactly my idea of fun.

I made the mistake of not taking any summer classes this year - not because I was lazy, but because unforeseen plumbing problems created a financial situation that left me high and dry when it came to tuition expenses. Having no classes during the summer was really nice, but now I have to pay the piper. It’s going to be very difficult getting back into the swing of things. Not to mention, my graduation date will be pushed even further into the great beyond. I just hope that I won’t have to ride across the stage in a motorized wheelchair to receive my degree.
