Play With Me!
I’m a big fan of plays. I went to only one production (The Odd Couple) at the Clarence Brown Theater last season. I just got a brochure in the mail for the 2005-2006 season, and there are some awesome plays coming up! Here’s the lineup:
1) Arsenic and Old Lace - The hilarious misadventures of the Brewster sisters as they poison elderly men and bury them in the cellar.
2) The Trojan Women - a powerful drama dealing with the subject of war in literature. Relates the fate of Cassandra, Hecuba, and other women after the fall of Troy.
3) A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas story.
4) As You Like It - Shakespeare’s romantic comedy set in an idyllic forest where lovely songs fill the air, where a handsome young man and a beautiful young woman - deeply in love - are united, and where villians are reformed.
5) Stones in His Pockets - set in a rural Irish town. A canny satire of today’s madcap movie business and a bittersweet reminder that movie myths can’t always compete with the drama of real life.
6) Big River - Huck Finn helps his slave friend, Jim, escape to freedom. Their adventures along the way are hilarious and heartwarming.
Not sure if any of you guys are fans of theatre, but if so, I hope you’ll show your support of the arts by getting tickets to a play or two at Clarence Brown. I plan to attend all six plays. Hope to see you there!
