My sister, Geneva, had her fourth baby last weekend. The first three are boys - Nicholas, Noah, and Elijah. The new baby is a girl by the name of Gloria Elaine. She weighed in at a whopping 5 lbs 8 oz!
Today I got word that my brother Ralph’s girlfriend is pregnant. The baby is due November 4th. The conditions aren’t ideal, of course, since Ralph and LaCosta are not married. I am a little upset and frustrated about the situation, but I’m hoping that things turn out well.
I’m the oldest child from my family, and surprisingly enough, I’m the one who will probably be last to have children, assuming that I have them at all. Jake is still holding strong at a mere 25 years old! If he ends up having children before I do, I’m going to officially throw in the towel and assume the title of “Old Maid”.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not ready to have children. There are other things I’d like to accomplish first, such as finding a suitable husband. And believe me - finding someone who is willing to marry and live with me will not be an easy task. I am so settled into my lifestyle that making room for someone else is going to take much time and effort. At the same time, there is the biological factor to consider. I will be 33 years old in June. Though I still look like a spring chicken, I’m not.
And even if my childbearing ability remains intact for years to come, I cannot allow myself to be referred to as the “Soccer Granny” when hauling my kids to and from their athletic events.
If I am not married with children by age 38, I think I’ll pursue alternative methods of passing on my genes. I can feel a Blogger Father Application coming on. ![]()
