I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve participated in a little bit of “man-bashing” in the past. Don’t get me wrong - I LOVE MEN! But you have to admit that they do seem to be from another planet sometimes. I never cease to be amazed at some of the things they try to get away with.
On the other hand, sometimes I have days like today. Sometimes I am in awe of those masculine creatures that we too often take for granted. Sometimes - yes, sometimes - I even say a little prayer to thank God for men.
My car has been acting strange for the last few days. On several occasions, it has died on me while I’ve been driving. Thankfully, I was able to start it back up and continue on my way each time. Well, as it would happen, I had to drive all the way to Dandridge tonight for my Strategic Management class. I am working on a group project, along with seven other classmates, for First Baptist Church of Dandridge. Read my previous blog entitled “Sail Away With Me on RCC” if you’re really interested in what this project involves. Anyway, my car made it to the church just fine. But leaving was another story entirely. The car had no power whatsoever. It wouldn’t make a sound. The lights wouldn’t come on. When I turned the ignition, NOTHING.
Thank God for the two guys in my group. Terry and Scott are their names, and they are great guys. They were determined to help me get my car back to Knoxville. They popped the hood and quickly discovered the problem. Apparently, one of my battery cables is fried. There was corrosion everywhere, and the cable was just burnt to a crisp. The guys cleaned off as much of the corrosion as they could, and they jump started my car. It took a couple of times for the jump to last, but finally, I was back in business. Terry even gave me his cell phone number and told me that if I had any problems on the way home that he’d be happy to come help me. I’ll be able to take my car in to be repaired tomorrow, and if I never have another automobile problem, it will be too soon for me!
Is technical knowledge a prerequisite to being a man? I’ve often wondered that. It seems that every single man I know is technically gifted. Be it cars, computers, electronics, or whatever other gadgets may be laying around, men know how they work! I have absolutely no interest in the inner workings of any mechanical apparatus, and furthermore, the idea of dirtying my hands to work on a car is completely unappealing. I guess I’m just too much of a “girly girl”.
It may seem that I’m only interested in men for their technical know-how, but that’s far from true. As most of you know, I have always had a multitude of guy friends with only one or two women thrown into the mix. Even though I’m a “girly girl”, I can relate to guys much easier than to women. I can freely talk to my guy friends without worry that I’m being examined through a microscope. I can have a beer with the guys, laugh, joke, and just be myself. And you know what? They love me just the way I am!
Men - ya just gotta love ‘em!
